Richard Tosic Architects were commissioned to assist with the statutory consents such as planning permission and building regulations approval. The existing building on the site was a single storey timber frame structure with a garage to the side. The site itself is level but has a steep slope access drive and a garden further up the site.
A previous planning consent was gained by the owners to add a new storey to the existing structure. It was then decided to demolish the existing structure and build a new two storey building with integrated garage. The design went through various changes, but the main concept was retained throughout, to have the living space on the first floor to take advantage of the views across the Far River.
The owners were very keen to embrace a good level of sustainability. This includes a timber frame construction with high insulation standards. Mechanical ventilation and heat recovery systems, underfloor heating and PV solar panels to the roof.
The upper level garden to the rear is accessed directly to the first floor level by a footbridge.
